residents came from West Africa as captives. They were forced to work on the
coastal plantations of North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida and Georgia.
Different communities intermingled and a brand new language and a brand new
culture were born. They retained more of their ancestral traditions and
lifestyle choices. Today they have changed themselves to blend in without
giving up on their old traditions.
